Sawyer tries to help Sayid but Sayid passes

Sawyer goes to the Dharma security building to talk to Sayid. He passes by Phil who he tells to take his lunch. Phil leaves and Sawyer goes to see Sayid. Sawyer asks him how he's doing and Sayid delivers the best line of the episode. He says "A twelve-year-old Ben Linus brought me a chicken salad sandwich. How do you think I’m doing?" Sawyer replies "Sweet kid, huh?" Sayid asks how he can live there with Ben. Sawyer tells him that he doesn't have a choice and that he has established a good life with the Dharma Initiative. Sawyer head butts Sayid. Sawyer tells Sayid that he has to look like he gave up his confession the hard way. He wants Sayid to say that he was trying to defect from the hostiles. Sawyer wants Sayid to live with the Dharma folk but Sayid says no. He decides to stick it out on his own.

We see the beginning of Sayid's plan to stay as a captive until Ben can help him and then he can eliminate him. It throws a wrench in Sawyer's plans.
