Hurley pays Ana Lucia to help Desmond, Kate & Sayid escape the police

At the police station, Sawyer comes to tell Kate, Desmond and Sayid that they are being sent to the county lockup. Kate stops him as he's leaving and says that he can still let her go because he believes she's innocent. Saywer says that he can't because he's a cop. Kate tells him that he doesn't seem like a cop.

In the back of the van, Desmond says that he thinks it's time to leave. Kate asks who he is and Sayid says that he's crazy, revealing that Desmond turned himself in. Desmond admits that he hit a man (Locke) in a wheelchair.

Desmond says that the driver already knows where to stop and says that when they stop, he'll expect Sayid and Kate to trust him, because he's going to ask them to do something. They both reluctantly agree, then the van comes to a stop.

The back door opens, revealing Ana Lucia who asks Desmond where her money is, because if she doesn't get it, she'll have to tell the police that she shot them while they tried to escape. As she releases them from their restraints, Hurley pulls up in his yellow Hummer.

Hurley gets out and says that he didn't know Ana Lucia was going to be there. With her trademark attitude, Ana Lucia says "Do I know you tubby?" Hurley realizes his mistake and says that they've never met and hands her an envelope with $125,000 in it. As she leaves, Hurley asks Desmond if she's not coming with them and Desmond says she's not ready yet.

Hurley's Camaro can be seen next to the van and he tells Desmond to take it. Sayid goes with Hurley who says he knows where they need to go. Kate stays with Desmond, who hands her a black dress and tells her that they're going to a concert. Kate looks bewildered.

So Desmond and Hurley both clearly know what's going on, and they have a plan. We learn what that plan involves in the finale.

Desmond turns himself in to the police, meets Sayid & Kate

As the police officer that Locke hung up on puts down the phone, Desmond approaches his desk and asks to speak to a detective.

Meanwhile, at the police station, Miles is getting dressed for a concert to benefit at his dad's (Pierre Chang) museum. He tells Sawyer that he can still be his date, but Sawyer passes since Charlotte is going to be there.

The officer from the front desk then brings Desmond to Sawyer. Desmond admits to hitting Locke with his car and beating up Ben at the school.

Desmond is led to a holding cell, where is placed between the ones containing Sayid and Kate. He slyly smiles as he introduces himself to Sayid and Kate.

So it became clear here that Desmond wanted to be put in jail so he could interact with Sayid and Kate like he has done with Hurley, Locke and Ben. We get a clearer view later in the episode of his plan later in the episode.

Sayid sacrifices himself, is killed by C-4 explosion

As the group examines the bomb which is still slowly ticking down, Jin calls Frank in the control room and tells him to have the captain surface the submarine. The captain has to reverse the submarine which is currently diving.

Jack tells the group that Locke put the explosives in the bag. Jin says that Locke wanted to come with them so why would he do that. Sawyer says that's why he shut Locke out. Jack tells them that Locke wanted to be shut out.

Sayid tells them that the watch has been jury-rigged to the explosives and the battery will set off the C-4. Frank tells Sawyer that it'll be at least five minutes before the submarine can surface. Sayid then says that if they disconnect two wires that are the leads from the watch, the bomb should be inert. He adds that they have to disconnect them simultaneously and then says "I'm not sure..." but is interrupted by Sawyer who steps forward.

Jack tells Sawyer to wait and not to pull the wires because they'll all be okay. Obviously, Sawyer objects strongly, saying that if he doesn't pull the wires, Locke will kill them. Jack says that Locke can't kill them and this is what Locke wanted. He says that Locke wanted to get them all in an enclosed space with no hope to get out. He says that Locke said he can't leave the island without them, but Jack thinks that Locke can't leave until they're all dead. Locke claimed he could kill them whenever he wanted, but Jack says what if he's not allowed to and he's trying to get them to kill each other.

Sawyer tells him to stay out of his way and Jack adds why would Locke put the timer on it and not just throw it in if he could kill them himself. Jack grabs Sawyer and asks him to trust him that nothing will happen. Sawyer says he doesn't and pulls the wires. The timer stops at 1:31 and everybody looks relieved. A moment later, the timer then starts again but is accelerated.

Sayid steps up and tells Jack that there is a well on the main island half a mile south of the camp they were just at. He says that Desmond is inside it and Locke wanted him dead, so Jack is going to need him. Jack asks why he's telling him this and Sayid then says "Because it's going to be you, Jack."

Sayid grabs the bomb and runs down the hallway. The bomb explodes, killing Sayid, who has sacrificed himself to give the others a chance to survive. It was quite a quick death for our original castaway from season one. I guess there's not time to left to stop and be emotional about a character who has essentially been a zombie most of the season.

We'll stop there and pick things up in the next post, but this part of the scene is heavy, with Jack once again seeming to figure out the rules of the game. So in theory, if Sawyer and the others wouldn't have interfered with the bomb, they would have lived, but since he got involved, he became the killer. So it seems that the candidates can kill each other, but Locke and possibly other people and forces cannot.

Jack finds the C-4 in the bag Locked swapped with his

As the submarine dives into the ocean, Jack is trying to treat Kate's bullet wound. Kate asks where Claire is and Jack tells her that she's still on the island. She objects, but is too weak. Hurley says that he can't find a first aid kit.

Jack asks Jin to hand him his bag that has a shirt he can use to apply pressure to the wound. As Jack is opening the bag, he says that he thinks the bullet went all the way through Kate. As he reaches his hand in the bag, he pulls out three blocks of C-4 (from the Ajira plane) attached to the digital watch that Locke took from the body of the Widmore's guy that he shot. The timer on the bomb is counting down from 3 minutes and 54 seconds. Jack says that they did exactly what Locke wanted.

This is an amazingly elaborate plan that Locke managed to pull off. He got everyone in one place with a bomb, just like Locke claimed Widmore was trying to do putting the explosives on the plane. This is the longest of cons that has played out over many years. The results are coming up.

The group takes control of the submarine, Jack pushes Locke in the water

The group led by Sawyer, crouch down a short distance from the submarine. They see no one guarding the submarine, but Sawyer lays out their plan. He, Hurley, Frank, Jin and Sun will go first, followed 30 seconds later by the rest of them with Jack and Locke coming last.

The first group makes their way to the submarine and climb in with no problems. Sawyer and Frank make their way to a room on the submarine where a man sits and they detain him before he can pull his gun. They force the man to take them to the captain and once they're there, Frank knocks out the original guy. Sawyer tells the captain to get the submarine ready to go.

Outside, just after the second group heads for the submarine, Locke grabs Jack's bag that's behind him and hands Jack the one he was originally carrying.  As the two of them head towards the sub, Locke tries to convince Jack to leave, telling him that whoever told him to stay on the island didn't know what they were talking about. Jack says that John Locke told him to stay and then suddenly pushes Locke into the water. Claire looks stunned.

So we start to see the workings of Locke's real plan once he switches his and Jack's bag. The rest of this scene's screen captures and recap/analysis coming soon.

Locke tells the group they must take the submarine, not the plane

As Frank leads the group through the jungle towards the Ajira plane, Kate asks Jack if he's coming with them now. Jacks says that he's not meant to go, but he'll help them leave. Sawyer thanks him for coming back for them.

Suddenly, Sayid emerges from the jungle, causing everyone to point their guns at him. Jack tells him it's okay because Sayid cut the power so they could escape the cages. Sayid says that they should go because Locke is waiting for them.

Later, after Locke has gone inside the plane, the group arrives at the Arija plane themselves. They notice the body of Widmore's guy with the broken neck when Locke emerges from the plane and says that he killed the two men. He says that Widmore placed the two men there for show and he knew that he would kill them because if Widmore wanted to keep him off the plane, he wouldn't have moved the sonic fence.

He then says that Widmore wanted to get them all in one enclosed place so they would all be killed with the four bricks of C-4 that were wired to the plane's electronics. He pulls the C-4 from his bag and tells the group that there could be more on the plane, so they'll have to take the submarine.

Hurley objects since Richard said that Locke was not supposed to leave the island. Sawyer says that Richard's opinion doesn't count since he's not there, then he thanks Locke for saving them twice and says that he was wrong about him.

Locke says that the submarine will be heavily defended, so they'll need everyone to succeed. Jack still doesn't want to leave the island, but says that he'll help them. Claire then apologizes to Locke, who says he understands why she left with the group.

Sawyer then hangs back to talk to Jack and starts to scheme again. He asks Jack to keep Locke from getting on the submarine by getting him in the water. It seems that Sawyer believes what Locke said about not being able to cross water earlier this season.

Jack wakes up on Hyrda Island, Locke wants his help freeing the others

Jack wakes up in an outrigger on Hydra Island in a haze after being knocked out earlier by the mortar attack on the main island.

When we come back to the scene, Sayid tells Jack that Locke saved him after the attack. Sayid tells him that the rest of the people who were with Locke who were not killed scattered into the jungle. He says it's just the three of them now.

Jack asks Sayid about why Locke brought him here when Locke appears and says that he needs his help rescuing his friends who were captured by Widmore. Locke claims that if they go now, they can break out Jack's people and get on the plane before Widmore knows what happened. Jack says that they are not his people and states again that he's not leaving the island. Locke says that he hopes that Jack changes his mind, but he still needs his help convincing the others to trust him.

When Jack asks Locke why he should trust him, Locke says that he could kill Jack and everyone else right now, but he didn't, he saved him and wants to save them too. He asks Jack to help, but we don't see Jack's answer.

So it would seem that Locke is lying about being able to kill Jack and the other candidates. If he could do that himself, it seems that he would and just move on. It may be one of the rules that Locke can't actually kill someone if they are an active candidate.

Sayid is arrested by Sawyer, Miles distracts Nadia

In the sideways, Sayid returns to Nadia's home and quickly begins to pack his suitcase. He doesn't tell Nadia what he has done, but only that her family will be okay now, but he has to leave and never come back.

The doorbell rings, and it's Miles. Nadia stalls as Sayid slips to the back of the house. Miles enters and sees Sayid's abandoned suitcase on the coffee table.

As Sayid attempts to slip out of the back door, Sawyer trips him with a garden hose and makes the arrest.

Desmond makes a good argument for Sayid not to kill him at the well

Sayid arrive at the well and points his gun at Desmond. Desmond calmly asks Sayid what he's getting in return for killing him. Sayid tells him that Locke promised him that he can get the woman he loves (Nadia) back who is dead. When Desmond why he thinks Locke can bring her back to life, Sayid tells says that Locke brought him back to life (referring to his resurrection while laying next to the spring in the temple).

Desmond poses a question to Sayid. He asks what he will tell Nadia that he did in order to get her back. This seems to cut through Sayid's zombie-like state, but we don't see what happens next.

Sawyer puts plan in motion as Locke with Jack + Locke tells Sayid to kill Desmond

At Locke's camp, Locke tells everyone to get ready to go to Hydra Island to they can take the plane off of the island. He tells everyone that Widmore's people are trying to provoke them into a confrontation and that's what they are going to get.

He then gives Sawyer a map to Desmond's old boat and tells him to bring it around to some bluffs to meet up with the rest of the group so they can all go to Hydra Island together. Sawyer asks Kate to go with him.

Sawyer then goes to Jack and tells him that he has a deal with Widmore. He wants Jack to get Sun, Hurley and Frank and meet him at an old dock so they can go to over to Hyrda Island. Jack asks about Sayid and Claire, and Sawyer says that Sayid is a zombie and Claire is nuts and he's not going to let her try to kill Kate again.

Finally, Locke has walked away from the camp with Sayid, where he asks him to go kill Desmond if he still wants to have Nadia back.

Kate figures out why Sawyer didn't bust her at LAX + Miles & Sawyer have to find Sayid

In the flash sideways, Sawyer sits down with Kate at the police station after offering her an apple. He looks at her file which says she is wanted for arson, assault on a federal officer and murder in the first degree. He remarks that she doesn't seem like a murderer. She says that she's not.

When he asks if she remembers him from the airport, he says that he thinks it's strange that of all the cars she could have run into, that it happened to be his. He wonders if someone is trying to bring them together.

Kate then calls him out, saying that she thinks that the reason he didn't arrest her at LAX was because he didn't want anyone to know he had been in Australia. This makes Sawyer uneasy for a moment, but then he says "Oh, I like you."

Sawyer is called away by Miles about a homicide case. Miles shows him a surveillance tape of Sayid and says that he was seen fleeing a restaurant where Keamy and three other goons were shot. Saywer says about Sayid "There's our bad guy," which is essentially what Sayid has become on the island.

Hurley's group arrive at Locke's camp, Jack & not-Locke meet

Locke returns to his camp to find Sayid waiting for him. Locke tells him that Desmond won't be a problem anymore. Sawyer then begins to chastise Locke when he stops cold as he sees Hurley walk into camp.

Locke looks pleased to see Hurley. Hurley says that he doesn't know who Locke is, but there are other people with him and they just want to talk without any violence.

Hurley tells everyone else to come out and Frank, Sun and Jack emerge from the jungle. Kate and Jack look happy to see each other, but then Locke says hello to Jack. They share an intense look.

This is the first time Jack has seen Locke since he put the shoes on him at the butcher shop before boarding Ajira 316.

Mysterious boy appears to Locke & Desmond, Locke gets agitated

Sayid leads Locke to where he has Desmond tied to a tree. Locke unties Desmond after Desmond says he has nowhere to run to. Desmond says that he doesn't know why Charles Widmore brought him back to the island, but mentions that they threw him into a wood shack blasted him with a massive amount of electromagnetism. When Locke asks how he knew it was electromagnetism, Desmond says that he knows from experience.

Locke clearly becomes unsettled by how unafraid and calm Desmond is. When Locke asks Desmond if he knows who he is, Desmond says "Of course. You're John Locke." Locke then sends Sayid back to camp and tells Desmond he wants to show him something.

Later, as Locke and Desmon are walking through the jungle, Locke tells Desmond that the island seems to have it out for him, but Desmond replies that the island has it in for all of them.

Suddenly, the mysterious boy appears in the jungle. It's the same boy from the episode "Recon," but here, he appears slightly older and has brown hair instead of blonde. Locke gets agitated by his appearance and tells Demond to ignore him. When Desmond asks who the boy is and if he knows him, Locke repeats his order to ignore him, but this time he's angrier. The boy smiles slyly, and runs off into the jungle.

So is this young boy Jacob, and if so, what about his appearance is causing Locke to lose his cool? He has seemed the most rattled the two times this boy has appeared.

Locke carving a large stick, Sayid takes him to Desmond

At Locke's camp, Locke is shaving down a large stick, which Sawyer questions him about. Locke says "I'm not sure what it's gonna be yet, James. When the time is right, it'll tell me." That's similar to the story Locke told Boone about Michaelangelo creating the statue David in the season 1 episode "Hearts and Minds."

Sawyer questions why they're just sitting around, doing nothing to get Jin back. Locke tells him that they're waiting for Jack, Hurley and Sun to show up, because they'll need all of them to be able to leave the island, just like when they came back to the island.

Sayid then returns to the camp and asks to speak to Locke alone. Sayid takes him into the jungle where he shows Locke that he has Desmond tied to a tree. Desmond still looks absolutely content and Locke looks surprised and pleasantly intrigued.

Desmond is now eager to help in original timeline, Sayid kills two men & takes him

When Desmond wakes back up in the original timeline, alive and well, Seamus and Zoe are both shocked, but Charles Widmore doesn't seem surprised at all. A nurse/medic starts to check his condition, but he waves her off, saying he's fine and asking Widmore to help him up.

Widmore tells Desmond he was only unconscious for a few seconds. He then starts to apologize, for putting Desmond through the test, but Desmond stops him, saying it's okay because he understands now. Widmore seems confused, but Desmond seems very zen and asks, "When do we start?"

Zoe and two other men start to walk Desmond through the Hydra Station grounds. She asks him what happened to make him go from beating Widmore about 20 minutes ago to being Mr. Cooperative. He says a lot can happen in 20 minutes. She says that the machine fried his brain. Suddenly, Sayid appears and kills the two other men. He points a gun a Zoe, but tells her to run. Sayid tells Desmond that Widmore's team are dangerous and they need to go. Desmond, Mr. Cooperative, says "lead the way" and follows Sayid.

So what exactly does Desmond now know in this timeline that makes him so zen? Does he know exactly what he needs to do, or is he just going with the flow?

Desmond is revealed to be the package, Sayid sees him from water

At Locke's camp, Sawyer reveals to Kate that he is worried because he's depending on the idea that Charles Widmore is going to kill Locke. At that moment Locke strolls back into camp. He questions where Jin and Sayid are, and Locke indicates that Sayid is still on Hydra Island to discover what Widmore is hiding on the submarine.

We then see Sayid emerge from the water not too far from where the submarine is docked. Zoe and Seamus can be seen removing a drugged-up Desmond from the submarine. They drop him on the dock where Desmond comes face-to-face with Sayid. Desmond looks confused and disoriented as Zoe and Seamus pick him up and take him towards land.

Jin shoots Mikhail in the eye + Sun is shot & pregnant + Sayid half-helps Jin escape the freezer

At Keamy's restaurant, Jin hears Sayid shooting Keamy and his men. Sayid enters starts to leave him there because Jin can't explain who he is. Jin begs for him to free him by repeating the word "free." Sayid puts the cutter from shelf in Jin's hands and tells him "Good luck," leaving Jin to free himself.

Mikhail arrives at the restaurant with Sun and finds the bodies on the kitchen floor. He doesn't realize that Jin is playing possum (pretending to be dead) on the floor. When Mikhail leans down to Keamy who is not dead, Jin stands and holds a gun to Mikhail's head.

Jin tells Sun to move back. Mikhail then attacks Jin and two wild shots are fired during the struggle. Mikhail breaks free and grabs a knife, but Jin shoots him in the eye, the same eye he was missing when he was on the island.

Jin then realizes that Sun has been shot in the abdomen. As he starts to carry her to get help, Sun reveals that she is pregnant. Could this be baby Ji Yeon and if so, will she survive this incident? Also, if the baby is Jin's, how is it that he's not infertile since he hasn't been to the island?
