Locke tells the group they must take the submarine, not the plane

As Frank leads the group through the jungle towards the Ajira plane, Kate asks Jack if he's coming with them now. Jacks says that he's not meant to go, but he'll help them leave. Sawyer thanks him for coming back for them.

Suddenly, Sayid emerges from the jungle, causing everyone to point their guns at him. Jack tells him it's okay because Sayid cut the power so they could escape the cages. Sayid says that they should go because Locke is waiting for them.

Later, after Locke has gone inside the plane, the group arrives at the Arija plane themselves. They notice the body of Widmore's guy with the broken neck when Locke emerges from the plane and says that he killed the two men. He says that Widmore placed the two men there for show and he knew that he would kill them because if Widmore wanted to keep him off the plane, he wouldn't have moved the sonic fence.

He then says that Widmore wanted to get them all in one enclosed place so they would all be killed with the four bricks of C-4 that were wired to the plane's electronics. He pulls the C-4 from his bag and tells the group that there could be more on the plane, so they'll have to take the submarine.

Hurley objects since Richard said that Locke was not supposed to leave the island. Sawyer says that Richard's opinion doesn't count since he's not there, then he thanks Locke for saving them twice and says that he was wrong about him.

Locke says that the submarine will be heavily defended, so they'll need everyone to succeed. Jack still doesn't want to leave the island, but says that he'll help them. Claire then apologizes to Locke, who says he understands why she left with the group.

Sawyer then hangs back to talk to Jack and starts to scheme again. He asks Jack to keep Locke from getting on the submarine by getting him in the water. It seems that Sawyer believes what Locke said about not being able to cross water earlier this season.

Locke finds C-4 on the Ajira plane, kills two of Widmore's men

After killing Seamus and presumably the other guys guarding the cages, Locke makes his way to the Arija airplane. He encounters two of Widmore's men guarding the plane who shoot at him, but he just keeps walking, unfazed. He snaps the first one's neck and then shoots the other one. He takes a digital watch from the wrist of the second which he uses later in the episode.

Locke makes his way to the plane's door, which has a stairway built out of bamboo and rope, presumably built by Widmore's people. He climbs inside and enters the cabin of the plane. He finds a wire running down the overhead compartment and follows where it leads to find an object he finds interesting, but we don't see here. We later learn that it was at least four blocks of C-4, which he takes.

Locke & Widmore face off at the sonic fence on Hydra Island

Locke reaches Hydra Island alone in a canoe and immediately sees the portable sonic fence set up all the way down the beach. Seamus and other armed members of Widmore's group take shots and Locke and tell him not to move. Locke says that he comes in peace.

They walk up the beach towards the Ajira plane with Locke staying on the ocean side of the fence. Charles Widmore emerges and Locke knows who he is. Widmore reveals that he knows that Locke is obviously not really Locke. He says other than that, all he knows is "myth, ghost stories, and jungle noises." Locke points out that Widmore knows more that he's letting on since he knew to put up the sonic fence pylons.

Widmore denies that he took Jin, causing Locke to repeat Widmore's words from season 5. Locke says "A wise man once said that war was coming to this island, I think it just got here."

So how much does Widmore actually know about the black smoke/Man in Black/Locke? Clearly he knows more than he's letting on, but how much is that? Something tells me this war is going to have a few casualties.

Sawyer figures out Zoe is lying, is ambushed by her people

Zoe tells Sawyer that she was on the Ajira flight and was off gathering wood when she heard screaming. She says that she came back and all of the other passengers were dead. Sawyer says that he'll take her back with him to the main island.

As they walk towards the canoe, Zoe asks a few too many questions about the people on the main island and whether they have guns. He's careful not too answer to specifically until she asks about guns, when he says they have plenty of those. She takes too long to answer questions like where she was flying and what she was going to Guam for.

Sawyer pulls a gun on her, but she whistles and several armed men, including a guy who seems like a leader named Seamus, emerge from the tree line. Sawyer gives up without a fight and says "take me to your leader."

So who are these people that we learn a little later work for Charles Widmore? Do they have any history with the island, or are they more hired guns like on the freighter? One thing is certain though. Either Zoe is supposed to be a really bad liar or the actress Sheila Kelley is really bad. I'd like to think it is the first option.

Sawyer inspects the Ajira plane, discovers dead passengers, meets Zoe

Sawyer makes his way to the Ajira plane, where he inspects it to see if it actually could be flown off of the island. Amongst some remaining luggage and discovers a trail of drag marks leading into the jungle.

He follows the trail to discover a pile of decaying bodies, which are the remaining Ajira 316 passengers. Then he sees a woman, Zoe, dart through the jungle. He chases her down and tackles her. She begs him no to hurt her and says that she's the only survivor left.

Sayid sees his friends as Ilana takes him to Ajira 316

As Ilana is taking Sayid to board Ajira Airways flight 316, he stops when he sees Hurley at the gate. He asks Ilana "Are you sure we're going to Guam?" She snidely respsons "Where else would we be going?" Sayid sees Jack and then Kate and asks Ilana if they can take the next plane because he is superstitious when it comes to flying. She tells him that she'll buy him a rabbit's foot at the gift shop because this is the plane they're taking. After they're on the plane, Sayid looks back at Sun and then sees the one person he really didn't wan to see. He sees Ben board the plane which promts him to ask Ilana if she is working for Ben Linus. She says she doesn't know who Ben Linus is and Sayid proceeds to describe him as a liar, manipulator and a monster responsible for genecide. Ilana says "Why would I work for somebody like that?" Sayid replies "I did."

The question here is does Ilana know more about what's instore for them on 316 that she lets Sayid believe? Her responses to his questions are very coy and sarcastic leading me to think she at least knows a little bit more than she admits.

Frank lies about the island, Ben and Sun sneak off, meet Bram

Sun is standing on the beach, looking at Jin's wedding ring. We can see the Ajira plane sitting not too far from the beach. Ilana comes over and asks if Sun lost someone on the flight, which she did not. Frank calls everyone to attention to tell them his plan that they should stay on the beach and wait for rescue. During the speech, we see a new character named Bram (6th photo) who doesn't speak in this episode, but is played by a recognizable actors, so will become active at some point. Caesar pipes in asking Frank "Where is here?" Frank tells him that he doesn't know and that the island is not on his charts. Caesar goes on to mention the buildings on the island, the animal cages and the bigger island and says that Frank needs some new charts. Caesar tells everyone that they should search the buildings for a radio or food.

At this point Ben, who is by the treeline, slips off into the jungle and Sun follows him. Frank sees Sun leave and follows her. Sun loses Ben briefly until he shows up behind her and asks "Why are you following me?" Sun asks him where he is going and he replies "Back to our island. You wanna come?"

So Caesar and Ilana are starting to become Nikki and Paulo a little bit. They are not quite as annoying, but they have been around for a few weeks now and haven't served much of a purpose, though it is possible that they shot at the canoes in "The Little Prince" (see screens here). And now we have Bram who hasn't even spoken yet. Hopefully, they'll serve a purpose soon.

After the flash night becomes day, Frank lands on the island runway

At the start of "Namaste," we go back to Ajira flight 316 where we see what happens to the plane from Frank Lapidus and the co-pilot's point of view. The co-pilot tells Frank that he recognizes Hurley as one of the Oceanic Six and Frank just plays it off. That is when the plane starts to experience turbulence and starts to lose altitude. The bright light flashes and suddenly the night becomes a bright, beautiful day. The plane plunges through the clouds towards the island and Frank manages to pull it around a hill to find a runway. He lands on the runway but can't get the plane to stop and it crashes into the trees. When Frank wakes up, he is bleeding but notices that his co-pilot has been impaled by a tree branch.

It is probable that this is the same runway that Kate and Sawyer were breaking rocks for in season 3 (in "The Glass Balerina" and "I Do") that Juliet jokes about later saying it was for the aliens ("Through the Looking Glass"). Is it possible that the runway was being built specifically for this event? If not, why was it built? Also, why does night become day? Did the plane move through time with the flash, just not to the same time as Jack, Kate, Hurley and Sayid?

Oh, and it's worth noting that the blue/green screen work for the plane crash was incredibly fake looking. This isn't the first time that air travel CG has been weak. The helicopter scene at the end of season 4 was also pretty bad (see here, specfically the second photo).
