Smoke monster takes out Richard, Locke makes a deal with Ben

Locke arrives on the main island and sees Zoe and Widmore's gear in an outrigger canoe. He looks at in for a moment then moves on.

The the barracks, Zoe arrives and tells Widmore that they need to go. Widmore tells them that they are going to hide in Ben's secret room. Ben says that he's not going to hide because Locke's going to find him sooner or later.

Miles says that he's going to survive by running through the jungle, but before he leaves, Ben asks for Widmore and Zoe's walkie talkies and gives one to Miles. Before Widmore goes into the secret room, he tells Ben that Locke is going to kill him. Ben says "Then I guess this is goodbye."

Richard then decides that he's going to talk to Locke, since all he wants is for him to join him. As Richard and Ben slowly walk outside, they suddenly hear the sound of the smoke monster approaching. In one motion, the smoke monster catches Richard by the neck and tosses him off into the distance.

Ben is stunned, but slowly sits down in a chair in front of his old house. Locke appears and sits down next to him, ominously playing with his knife. He says that Ben is who he was looking for and Ben offers him some lemonade. Locke tells Ben that he wants him to kill some people, and if he does, he can have the island after he leaves.

Ben hesitantly agrees and then after Locke asks whose outrigger is down at the dock, Ben tells him it's Widmore's. When Locke asks where Widmore is, Ben gives it up that they're hiding in his closet.

We're left wondering the fate of Richard, who is not seen for the rest of the episode. We also don't see Miles again. Ben was quick to give up Widmore to Locke, but Widmore is certainly the one person Ben has no interest in forgiving.

Sawyer tells Locke the Widmore plan, tells Kate they're taking the submarine

When Sawyer comes back to the main island, Locke is there to meet him. Sawyer tells him that all of the Ajira passengers are dead and Charles Widmore is on Hyrda island with at least six armed guards. He also mentions that they're hiding something on the sub and are setting up sonic fence pylons. He tells Locke about the deal he made with Widmore and claims that Locke can now change his plan of attack to get the jump on them. Locke says that he appreciate's Sawyer's loyalty.

Later, at the camp, Sawyer approaches Kate who asks if he's working for Locke now. Sawyer says that he's planning to let Widmore and Locke fight it out. He tells Kate that the two of them will take the submarine off of the island.

This was easily the least dramatic ending of a season six episode so far, but it'll hopefully lead to more interesting plot points. There have been too many plans to take a submarine off of the island though.

Sawyer figures out Zoe is lying, is ambushed by her people

Zoe tells Sawyer that she was on the Ajira flight and was off gathering wood when she heard screaming. She says that she came back and all of the other passengers were dead. Sawyer says that he'll take her back with him to the main island.

As they walk towards the canoe, Zoe asks a few too many questions about the people on the main island and whether they have guns. He's careful not too answer to specifically until she asks about guns, when he says they have plenty of those. She takes too long to answer questions like where she was flying and what she was going to Guam for.

Sawyer pulls a gun on her, but she whistles and several armed men, including a guy who seems like a leader named Seamus, emerge from the tree line. Sawyer gives up without a fight and says "take me to your leader."

So who are these people that we learn a little later work for Charles Widmore? Do they have any history with the island, or are they more hired guns like on the freighter? One thing is certain though. Either Zoe is supposed to be a really bad liar or the actress Sheila Kelley is really bad. I'd like to think it is the first option.

Locke tells Sawyer he's the smoke monster, sends him to Hydra island

As Locke leads his group across the island, he tells them that they are going to stop and make camp in a clearing for a few days. Sawyer objects to this in front of everyone, wanting to know why they're not leaving the island.

Locke and Sawyer go to talk privately where Locke reveals to Sawyer that he's the black smoke and that he killed the people at the temple when they chose to stay. He says that the people who stayed were convinced that they're protecting the island from the smoke (Locke), so it is either "kill or be killed."

Locke then leads Sawyer to the beach where there's an outrigger canoe sitting. He tells Sawyer to go to the Hydra island and do some recon on the remaining Ajira 316 passengers that he claims may include people that want to do them harm. He says that the plan is to fly the Ajira plane away from the island.

So is any of what Locke is saying true? We know a lot of what he said is a lie, but is the Ajira plane really part of his plan?

Locke and Ben get back to the main island

Locke and Ben arrive at the pier on the main island. Ben ties the boat up, looks at the island and says "Home sweet home." Locke points out the other canoe and Ben says that it is Sun and Frank's. Ben mentions that he told Sun where to go and then she hit him with a paddle. Locke asks if she was the one that hurt his arm and Ben says that someone else hurt his arm. Locke says "You just make friends everywhere you go, don't you." Ben says that he's found that sometimes friends can be more dangerous than enemies. Ben tells Locke that he shot Caesar with the gun he was going to shoot Locke with and he couldn't let that happen. Locke replies "No sense in me dying twice, right?" Ben just replies "You're welcome." While this conversation is going on, Locke is putting his shoes back on, the one's that belonged to Christian Shephard.

Locke says/asks if they're going back to Ben's old house. Ben says yes, it's the only place he can summon the monster. He says "Once it arrives I'll either be forgiven, or I won't." Locke says that Ben is lying. He says that Ben does not want to be judged for leaving the island and coming back because it's against the rules. He says Ben wants to be judged for killing his daughter, Alex.

The pier looks less damaged in the daylight in this scene than it did at night when Frank and Sun arrived. Their are no barrels or other debris floating in the water. Also, Locke seems to have really nailed Ben with his thought on his judgment as we see later in the episode.

Ben shoots Caesar, he and Locke take a canoe

Ben and Locke uncover one of the canoes so they can go to the main island. There are only supposed to be two left after Sun and Frank took one, but there is clearly three in the first shot. This seems like a mistake by the set designers.

As they are uncovering one of the canoes, Caesar and three other guys come up asks what they're doing. Locke says they're taking one of the canoes to the main island. Caesar says "I don' think so my friend." Locke asks him if they're his boats and Caesar replies "Are they yours?" Locke tells Caesar that the boats were found there so he's just going to borrow one and he'll leave the other one if they want to follow them. Caesar asks Ben if he's going and Ben says that he wasn't given a choice. Caesar says he's calling the shots and they cannot take a a canoe. He says that Locke needs to sit down and tell him how he knows so much about the island adding a "My friend" at the end. Locke says that Caesar's in the habit of calling people friend, but he doesn't really mean it. Locke tells him that they're taking the boat and Caesar is going to let them. Caesar reaches for the gun in his bag but it's not there. Ben pulls it out and shoot Caesar in the chest. He turns to the other guys with Caesar and says that he and Locke are taking a boat and asks "Does anyone else have a problem with that?" They all back away and shake their heads indicating "no." Ben tosses the gun to Locke and says "Consider that my apology."

So is that the end of Caesar? Did the producers introduce this new character in multiple episodes just to be shot? There's always a good chance that Caesar will turn up in flashbacks when we learn more about the other people on Ajira 316.

Pier and barracks are trashed, Christian helps Sun, smoke monster looms

Sun and Frank arrive at the main island in the outrigger canoe. The walk up the pier which appears to be run down. The lamp posts are knocked over and there is a Dharma barrel in the water. The smoke monster moves the trees a bit like in the first season. This doesn't phase Sun though who keeps moving. They make their way to the barracks that are really run down. Windows are boarded up, Dharma signs are hanging off of the buildings and trees are knocked over. Suddenly, a light comes on in one of the buildings. Christian Shepard slow opens the door and appears to Sun and Frank. Sun asks him if he knows where Jin is and he says "Follow me."

They go to the room where orientation is held and people are given assignments. The building is run down too and the "Innoculations" sign is still up. Christian goes over to the wall where new recruit photos still hang. He finds the one from 1977 which has Jack, Kate and Hurley in it. He tells Sun that Jin is with her friends. He then says "I'm sorry but you have a bit of a journey ahead of you."

The big question here is, why is all of the Dharma Initiative stuff still on the island in 2007. This stuff wasn't here when the others lived there in 2004. Did something that the Losties did by going back to the 1970s change the course of the island's history? Since there are 1970s pictures still on the wall and nothing more recent, it would seem that the barracks may not have been used since the 70s.

Also, why does the smoke monster appear to open the door of the building they are in a just hang out by the door? That was really strange.
