Ethan is Claire's doctor at the hospital, Kate seems to recognize the name Aaron

Back the "alternate" timeline, Kate rushes Claire to the hospital where she is quickly taken inside. Kate is clearly paranoid about the police presence in the vicinity.

Once inside, Kate gets impatient waiting for a doctor and goes to find one herself. The first one she comes across is none other than Ethan Rom, who is going by Ethan Goodspeed here (since he is Horace Goodspeed's son). Once he gets inside with Claire, the scene is reminiscent of their scenes in the season 2 episode "Maternity Leave."

Ethan says that she can have the baby now or he can give her some drugs to slow the process down. He drops the line "I don't want to stick you with needles if I don't have to," which if you recall he did regularly at the medical station. Once she chooses to wait, an alarm sounds and in her panicked state, she says "Is Aaron okay?!" When Kate hears the name Aaron, her eyes widen and she looks stunned as if something in her mind briefly clicked with the original timeline (check out photo 8).

Everything then calms down and Claire can see Aaron on the screen once he's moved back into position. Kate is holding Claire's hand and that moment together is reminiscent of the moment they shared when Aaron was born on the island, but just slightly. The scene seems to solidify the bond these two have, no matter what events occur.

Ben brings Alex back to camp, Charles Widmore is not pleased

Ben and Ethan bring baby Alex back to the camp where Charles Widmore, Richard Alpert and many other are. Widmore asks Ben if he did it and Ben tells him that they had a complication. Widmore looks up and asks Ben if he's holding a baby and says that his orders were "To exterminate that woman." Ben says that Rousseau is no threat to them because she's insane. Ben continues saying that Widmore didn't tell him she had a child. Ben asks "What was it I was supposed to do?" Widmore angrily says "Kill it!" Ben says that it's not an it, it's a child. Richard looks at Ben then Widmore to see his response. Widmore stands and approaches Ben telling him a familiar line we've heard Ben say from time to time. Widmore says "Every decision I've made has been about protecting this island." Ben asks "Is killing this baby what Jacob wants?" Widmore and everyone else is silent. Ben then holds Alex out to Widmore and says "Here she is. You do it." Widmore just turns and walks away. Richard seems pleased with the stand that Ben took.

So this scene seems to prove that Widmore was lying when he told Locke in "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham" that he ruled the island peacefully. Killing a woman and her baby is certainly not peaceful.

Ben takes Alex from Danielle Rousseau, young Ethan waits nearby

In 1989, Ben (who is about 24 or 25) is with a young Ethan Rom (who is about 12) looking at Danielle Rousseau's camp on the beach. Ben is just looking at the camp when Ethan asks him twice if he wants him to do it. Ben tells Ethan to shut up and stay there. With his gun drawn, Ben moves into Rousseau's camp, stops at the entrance and the moves in. Once inside, he hears a baby (Alex) cry which startles him causing him to knock Rousseau's music box to the ground. Rousseau wakes up and reaches for her gun but Ben tells her to stop. Rousseau says "You're the one who infected us, aren't you?" Ben moves towards Alex and Rousseau begins screaming "Rendez-moi mon bébé!" Ben picks up Alex and Rousseau asks him not to take her. Ben asks her "Do you want your baby to live?" Rousseau screams "Why are you taking her?" and steps towards Ben who then fires his gun into the sand. He tells her to "Be grateful you're still alive." He continues saying that if she follows him or ever comes looking for him, he'll kill her. He then tells her "Everytime you hear whispers, you run the other way." Ben the darts out of the tent/hut.

So this explains why Danielle Rousseau was so paranoid about the whispers in the first few seasons. It also gives us a glimpse of young Ethan who seems to have already joined the others. What's weird about this is that the purge didn't occur until 1992, so Ben and Ethan were working with the others while Ben was still living with the Dharma Initiative. Did Ben sneak out at night to help the others and then go back to the barracks?

Horace, Radzinsky, Sawyer, Annie and the others vote to kill Sayid

Horace has called a meeting in his house in the Dharma barracks to discuss what they should do with Sayid. Radzinksy immediately suggests that they kill him. Sawyer jumps in and disagrees with killing him saying that they are civilized and are not like the hostiles. Radzinksy goes on his schpeel again about how Sayid has seen things referring to the Swan Station model. Radzinksky is getting really annoying, really fast because he has a one track mind. Sawyer defends Sayid saying that Sayid must have problems with his people. Horace says he wants more time to think about the situation. Radzinsky wants Horace to put it to a vote or he's going to call Ann Arbor so they can make the decision for them. Annine chimes in and says she agrees with Radzinsky. She uses their baby Ethan and all of the children to justify killing Sayid. She says they're not safe with Sayid there. That convinces Horace to call for a vote and everyone but Sawyer raises their hand. Horace turns to Sawyer and says "I'd really like to say it's unanimous." Sawyer then hesitantly raises his hand.

This process of law in this scene resembles the way the others were going to put Juliet to death in season 3 for killing Pickett. It also seems that there are people in Ann Arbor, Michigan that can make decisions for the Dharma Initiative members on the island. Ann Arbor is supposed to be where the Degroots started Dharma. Pierre Chang is a professor of Theoretical Astrophysics from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

It's also a bit creepy how quickly this entire group all decided to kill someone. Also, why is this particular group of people making the decision. Who are they and why do they have the power to make this decision?

Another interesting thing to note in this scene is that the woman on the couch next to Radzinsky and Rosie who is sitting on the floor both have The Looking Glass logos on their uniforms. Rosie's uniform lists her as a nurse.

Baby Ethan Rom, Juliet takes submarine manifest

In the barracks, Juliet walks over to Amy who is sleeping in a hammock. She picks up the submarine manifest and accidentally wakes Amy up. She asks Amy if there is a full load on the submarine and Amy says that two people dropped out at the last minute because they didn't want to take the sedative before the trip. Juliet picks up the baby and asks Amy if she and Horace had picked a name for him yet. Amy tells her that they named him Ethan, as in Ethan Rom (the mysterious other who kidnapped Claire and was shot by Charlie in season 1). When Juliet hears the name, she is a bit taken aback. She is also a bit shaken when Amy asks her when she and Jim will have a baby. Juliet replies, that she doesn't know and that the time has to be right.

So, Ethan was born on the island and is the son of Horace and Amy. Quite a twist there. So maybe we'll see how he goes from being Dharma baby to being an other surgeon. He certainly seems exponentially less menacing in baby form.

Locke sees the Nigerian beachcraft, gets shot by Ethan

As Locke wanders the island, he reaches the top of a hill to see the yellow Nigerian beachcraft carrying Mr. Eko's brother and the drug runners crash on the island. He picks up one of the Virgin Mary statues then heads towards the plane. He calls up to the plane then attempts to climb up and see the people inside, but he is shot once again and falls to the ground. It turns out that he was shot by Ethan Rom (the other killed by Charlie in season 1). Just before Ethan shoots him, the island skips in time again, this time going forward. It is also night after the skip.
