Radzinsky wants to continue drilling despite Pierre Chang's warning, Sawyer cuts a deal

Pierre Chang rushes into the security center saying that they need to evacuate the island of all non-essential personnel. He stops when he see Sawyer and Juliet handcuffed and bloody. Radzinsky says to Pierre that he is supposed to be at the Swan station site because they are supposed to break ground in less than twenty hours. Pierre says "We're under imminent threat. If we start drilling, there's a high probability of a cataclysmic accident." Radzinsky says that are going to drill on schedule. Pierre turns to Horace saying that he's in charge but Radzinsky buts in and says that Horace is not in charge anymore. Radzinsky says "This is my decision and it's been made."

Sawyer says that it's not safe on the island and they should put the women and children on the submarine. He says that if they put him and Juliet on the submarine, they'll tell them whatever they want to know. He asks Juliet is that's okay and she says "Absolutely." Radzinsky tells Sawyer to draw him a map to where the hostiles are if he wants to be on the submarine. Sawyer opens up the Dharma notebook and starts drawing.

It still seems a bit odd how Horace let Radzinsky just take over without fighting it. Horace didn't say a single word in this scene.

Sawyer is beaten more, Phil punches Juliet, Mitch discovers a discrepancy in the sub manifest

Returning to the Dharma security building, Radzinsky is now beating Sawyer with a metal tool of some kind. Radzinsky asks if Kate took Ben to hostiles and if he knows where they are. He then knocks Sawyer out of his chair onto the floor and Juliet begs him to stop. Radzinsky tells Juliet to tell him what he wants to know. Juliet tells Radzinsky that they've known each other for three years and that they are not bad people and are not there to hurt them. Sawyer tells her to not to say anything because whatever they tell them they won't believe anyway and will only get more people hurt

Horace asks Radzinsky what they are doing because he's not going to talk. Phil then says that he can make them talk. Phil then punches Juliet in the face which even seems to shock Radzinsky (see photo 11). Sawyer tells Phil that he's going to kill him while Juliet can be seen bleeding from her lip.

Another security worker named Mitch comes in and tells Radzinsky that there's no sign of Jin or Miles. He goes on to say that he got the submarine's manifest from Amy and three recruits were added at the last minute including Jack and Kate who shot at Radzinsky. Radzinsky asks "Who is Hugo Reyes?" and Phil says "He's the fat guy."

For those who listen to the offical podcast, this seems to be the moment Damon and Carlton eluded to that would change everyone's mind about Phil. The fact that he shocked Radzinsky seems like quite a feat considering Radzinsky has been very quick to violence all season.

Radzinsky and Phil beat Sawyer to get answers, Horace objects

At the security building, Sawyer and Juliet are bound to chairs. Radzinsky points to Kate on the monitor and asks Sawyer where she is. Sawyer says "I want my lawyer" and Radzinsky punches him in the face. Horace objects to what Radzinsky is doing but Radzinksy asks Sawyer the same question again and then hits him again. Horace tells Radzinsky to stop and says "I'm still in charge." Radzinsky tells Horace that he was in charge but to protect their people and the work they're doing, Horace does not have the stomach for what comes next. Horace hesitantly backs away and let's Radzinsky continue.

Radzinsky calls Phil over who grabs Sawyer by the head and slams him into the desk in front of the monitors. Radzinsky tells Sawyer that this is his last chance to tell him where Kate is or "So help me God, I will kill you."

Not much to say here except it seems odd how quickly Horace cowers everytime Radzinsky challenges him. Obviously Horace is not a real leader.

Horace sends Miles to the Orchid, Hurley bums a ride

Miles comes back to the barracks security center to find Horace on the phone with Pierre Chang. Horace is talking about Alverez's death possibly being caused by electromagnetism. Horace's conversation with Pierre ends and he tells Miles to take the body to the Orchid station. Miles tries to convince Horace that someone from the motor pool could take the body to the Orchid. Horace tells him that if he wanted someone from the motor pool to do it, he would have asked them.

Miles goes out to the van to find Hurley loading two coolers of sandwiches in the back. Miles objects telling Hurley that the van is his. When Miles tells Hurley he's going to the Orchid, Hurley says that's where he's going too. Hurley is taking lunch to the crew which is ham and cheese sandwiches with Hurley's secret garlic mayo. As Miles objects again, Hurley says they should carpool because "It'll help with global warming, which hasn't happened yet, so maybe we can prevent it." Then Hurley asks Miles is he's on a secret mission and Miles just tells him to get in.

Miles reads March 1977 Sports Illustrated, given body bag by Horace

At the Dharma security center, Miles is reading a Sports Illustrated Magazine from March 14, 1977 with Tommy Lasorda on the cover. Sawyer calls him on his walkie and asks him to erase the security tape from the sonic fence pylon camera. Miles asks which ones and Sawyer tells him to look on the monitors. The camera they are at is number 4 (one of the numbers). Sawyer tells him that if anyone asks where he is, tell them that he's out looking for Sayid. During the conversation, Miles tries to get Sawyer to tell him what's going on, but Sawyer says there's no time. Miles seems peeved that he won't tell him why he's erasing the tape. Sawyer tells Kate to go back to Juliet and see if anyone has noticed that Ben is missing.

Miles ejects the tape for camera 4 from the VRT machine. As the tape is ejecting, Horace comes in looking for Sawyer (actually LaFleur). Miles tells him he's out looking for the escaped prisoner. Horace tells Miles that he's going to bring him into the circle of trust. He hands him a rolled up body bag, though Miles doesn't know this yet. Horace tells him to drive it out to grid 334 and give it to Radzinsky who will give him something to bring back. Horace says to bring it back to him "With no questions asked." Miles says that they are not supposed to be in grid 334 because it is hostile territory. Horace says "Welcome to the circle of trust." Miles heads out on his way and we can see that he's left the security tape in the machine.

While the Sports Illustrated magazine isn't an exact gauge of when they are in 1977, it's a good indicator. Obviously there periodicals are probably a bit outdated, but it's fair to assume that it's no later than summer 1977.

Also, the VTR machine on the bottom on both sides is VTR-239 and the tape from camera 4 is numbered GND-2398923-TP4. The number 4 appears again as well as 23 three times. Numbers, numbers everywhere.
