Juliet knocks out Mitch, forces the captain to surface the submarine

Back on the submarine, Sawyer is questioning Jack's theory that if the bomb goes off, then flight 815 will land in Los Angeles. Kate says that if he's wrong, everyone on the island will die. Sawyer sticks with his decision to leave the island, but Juliet has her own plan.

When Mitch comes to give them their sedatives, Juliet grabs his head and slams it against the table. She tells Sawyer that "we decided to leave," he didn't make the decision alone and know she's decided that they're going back. She takes Mitch's keys and unlocks her own and then Kate's handcuffs. Juliet asks Sawyer "You want out? You want to stay here and whine about it?" Sawyer tells her to unlock his cuffs.

Captain Bird is on the radio in the control room saying that they are locked onto the bearing and ready to leave the island. As he hangs up Juliet is behind him holding a gun on him. Sawyer takes his gun and tells him to surface the submarine. Juliet puts the gun to his neck and tells him that once they're gone, proceed on course and do not take the rest of the people back to the island. The captain asks what he should do if Horace calls him prompting Sawyer to shoot the radio and say "You ain't home." The captain begins the process of surfacing the submarine and it heads upward to surface.

We finally get a decent look a the submarine Dharma logo which you can see below. It'd be better without that damn ABC logo in front of it.

Kate tells Sawyer and Juilet about Jack's plan, Sawyer doesn't care

On the submarine, Mitch is handing out sedatives to the passengers near-by. The captain tells them to have a nice rest and "see you on the other side." Kate tells Sawyer and Juliet that they have to get out of there because they have to stop Jack from blowing up the hydrogen bomb Jughead. Sawyer tells her that he passes because they were happy with the Dharma Initiative until Kate and the others came back but now that's over. He says that he and Juliet are going to take their chances in the real world and that if Jack wants to blow up the island, "then good for Jack."

Kate is caught and put on the submarine, Sawyer and Juliet clearly uncomfortable

Back at the submarine, more Dharma folk are loaded in for the evacuation. Inside, Juliet asks Sawyer what they're going to do when they get back to Ann Arbor. Sawyer says that the Dharma Initiative have no authority in the real world so when they dock, they are free. Juliet says "Real world. I don't even know what that means anymore." Sawyer takes her hand and says "Whatever happens, I got your back, remember?" Juliet says "I love you" and Sawyer replies "I love you back."

Phil says not to close the hatch because "Horace wants her off the island too. We'll let Ann Arbor deal with them." He says that she was caught coming back into town. Kate then comes down the ladder and is cuffed next to Sawyer and Juliet who are very uncomfortable with her being there.

The crew prepares to leave and the lights turn red as the submarine goes under water as it heads away from the island.

I'm generally not one to criticize little things and I'm sure the budget is tight right now, but that submarine diving looked incredibly fake. Oh well, it was a short shot.

Tension is high among the trio on the sub, and it's likely going to peak in the season finale. Juliet clearly does not like Kate being anywhere near Sawyer so that would be an uncomforable submarine trip.

Miles, Jin and Hurley see Charlotte and Miles head for the sub, Sawyer says 'good riddance' to the island

At the pier, a voice on the loudspeakers says "The submarine departs in 30 minutes. All evacuees, please proceed to the dock." Miles, Jin and Hurley are watching the women and children boarding the submarine. They see Charlotte and her mom getting out of a van followed by Pierre Chang, Lara and baby Miles. Lara wants to stay and help but Pierre yells at her "I want you to leave, now!" Miles realizes that his father his yelling at his mother because it's the only way he can get her to leave.

Miles then sees a jeep pull up with Sawyer and Juliet in the back. Hurley says it's okay because Sawyer always has a plan.

On the pier, Sawyer tells Juliet that they'll buy Microsoft and they'll bet the Cowboys in the 1978 Super Bowl which will make them rich. Sawyer tells her he's sorry and that they should have gotten on the submarine three years ago when Juliet wanted to leave. Juliet says that she's glad he talked her out of it.

Mitch tells them to get in the sub. Before Sawyer gets in, he looks back at the island and says "Good riddance."

It's good to see that Miles gets to understand that Pierre sent his mom and him away from the island to protect them, not because he didn't care. It's also good to see Sawyer commit to Juliet and get in the submarine. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought he might try to stay behind like when he jumped off the helicopter.
