Pierre stops the drilling at the Swan, Radzinsky restarts it, wants to change the world

At the Swan station site, Radzinsky shows up in a van and demands to know who stopped the drill. Pierre Chang says that he stopped the drilling because the when the drill passed 70 meters, the temperature went up 60 degrees and he didn't want it to melt. Radzinsky says that's why they have a truck full of water to cool it down.

Pierre argues that they just evacuated the island of non-essential personnel and says they are in the midst of a possible inscurrection. He asks "Do you really think this is the ideal time for your experiments?" Radzinsky says that he's been working on this project for six years, designing a station that can manipulate electromagnetism "In ways we've only dreamed of." Pierre asks him if he's thought about the consquences of drilling into this pocket of energy. Radzinsky says "If Edison was only worried about the consequences we'd all still be sitting in the dark. I came to this island to change the world Pierre, that's exactly what I intend to do."

Radzinsky turns the drill on and the camera pans down through the hatch into the dark hole.

In what ways does Radzinsky think he can change the world? What is so incredibly important about his experiments? This is the first time we get an inkling of his reasoning for always acting like a complete jackass.
