Jacob tells Hurley that he is not crazy, about Ajira 316 and leaves a guitar case

The day before Ajira flight 316, Hurley is being released from Los Angles County Prison. The prison clerk whose last name is Winter gives Hurley back his possessions including a wallet, $227 cash, a ball point pen and a fruit roll-up. Hurley tries to tell the clerk that this is a mistake because he killed a bunch of people. The clerk shows him a discharge form and says he needs to take his stuff and go. Hurley tells him that there are men with tranquilizers guns who want to take him somewhere against his will. The clerk says "There's a cab stand right out front."

Outside the prison, Hurley starts to get into a cab and notices that Jacob is already inside. Jacob offers to share the cab since he's only going a gew blocks. Hurley gets in and there is the infamous guitar case sitting between him and Jacob. Hurley offers Jacob some of his fruit roll-up, but Jacobs passes.

Hurley asks Jacob what he was in jail for and Jacob tells him that he wasn't in jail. Hurley asks him why he was sitting outside a prison in a cab. Jacob says "I was waiting for you Hugo." Hurley tells Jacob "Then you must be dead." Jacob says that he's not dead and asks "I want to know why you won't go back to the island." Hurley says that he's cursed and that's why the plane crashed, his friends died and now they visit him. Jacob says "Well, what if you weren't cursed? What if you were blessed?" He goes on to say that Hurley gets talk to the people that he's lost which is a pretty wonderful thing. Hurley says that is great except for the part where he's crazy. Jacob says "I've got some news for you, Hugo, and you're just gonna have to take my word on this. You are not crazy."

Hurley asks Jacob who he is and Jacob tells the cab driver that he's just up there on the corner. Jacob tells Hurley "Ajira Airways Flight 316 out of LAX. Leaves in 24 hours. All you have to do is get on that plane. It's your choice, Hugo. You don't have to do anything you don't want to." While he's talking, Jacob reaches over and lightly touches Hurley. As Jacob gets out of the cab, Hurley tells him he forgot his guitar. Jacob tells him "It's not my guitar."

Hurley is the last person to approached by Jacob and he and Sayid are the only ones we see touched by Jacob after the Oceanic 6's rescue. Unlike everyone else who tried to convince Hurley to go back to the island, Jacob pitches it to Hurley with no pressure. He leaves the decision up to Hurley, who seems to take hold of the argument that Jacob makes about the curse actually being a blessing. Maybe Hurley also took a look inside that case which may or may not contain Charlie's guitar and that helped convince him to get on Ajira 316. There is certainly more to Hurley's story than just this conversation.

Hurley stocks up on Dharma food, Pierre learns that Miles is his son

Hurley is packing a bunch of food from the Dharma pantry including corn, chicken soup and vanilla cookies. He then heads across the barracks where security is running through with guns. He is still carrying the guitar he had on Ajira flight 316. Pierre Chang sees him and starts following.

Hurley meets Jin and Miles just outside the barracks and asks them what the rescue plan is. Miles says they're going to the beach and that they can't save Sawyer and Juliet because they're outnumbered.

Pierre Chang walks up and Miles asks what he's doing there. Pierre says he could ask them the same thing and Hurley replies "But we asked you first." Pierre asks if Daniel was telling the truth when he said that they were from the future. Hurley says "Dude, that's ridiculous." Pierre asks him what year he was born and Hurley says 1931. Pierre says "You're 46?"and Hurley says yes. Pierre asks "So you fought in the Korean War?" Hurley pauses and says "There's no such thing." Miles and Jin share a "Yikes" look. Pierre then asks who the president of the United States is and Hurley gives in and says that they are from the future.

Pierre steps towards Miles and asks if it's true then that he is his son. Miles confirms that it is true though the moment they share is brief. Pierre then says that Daniel told him to evacuate everyone off the island because there would be a massive accident at the Swan station. He asks Miles is this is true and Miles says "He's been right about everything so far." Miles says that if Daniels said to get people off of the island, "I'd do it." Pierre says "Let's hope he knows what he's doing."

Pierre learns that Miles is his son, but instead of having a brief moment to enjoy it, the approaching crisis does not allow it. It would have been nice if they had a more emotional moment, but there might still be time for that.

The group boards Ajira flight 316, flight takes off

Jack and Hurley go to board the plane and are greeted by one of the flight attendants, Rupa Krishnavani. They board the plane and Sayid, Ilana, Kate and Sun are already on the plane. Jack is seated in row 8 (hello numbers again). Sayid seems surprised to see Jack on the plane but quickly checks his reaction. Kate's eyes are red and she has obviously been crying again. Hurley boards with the guitar which we can still only assume has something to do with Charlie.

Ben rushes to the plane right as the flight attendants are about to close the door. Sayid seems really shocked to see Ben board the plane and Hurley freaks out when he sees him. Hurley screams "No, no he can't come!" while Jack tries to calm him down. Hurley then says "No one told me he was going to be here." Ben replies "Who told you to be here Hugo?" Jack manages to calm everything down before Rupa gets too involved and then she hands him Locke's suicide note which was pulled from the coffin during the security screening. Once they reach their seats, Jack asks Ben what is going to happen to the other people on the plane and Ben coldly replies "Who cares."

When the plane takes off, an Oceanic airplane can be seen taxiing in the background (photos 13 and 14).

After the plane is in the air and seat belt sign is turned off, Jack gets up to talk to Kate. Jack tells her how amazing it is that Hurley and Sayid are on the plane and asks "How did they end up here?" Kate's reply is "They bought a ticket." Jack thinks it means something that they're all back together on the plane. Kate says that they're on the same plane but that doesn't mean that they're together.

At that point, a familiar pilot's voice comes over the intercom. Everyone, even Kate, seems shocked when he introduces himself as Frank J. Lappidus. Jack gets up and asks Rupa if he can talk to Frank because they are old friends. A few moments later, a clean shaven, sober Frank Lappidus emerges from the cockpit. Frank apparently picked the gig up eight months ago and regularly flies this route. He stops in mid-sentence when he notices everyone else in first class. Then Frank pretty calmly says, "We're not going to Guam, are we?"

That's a lot to taken in. There are a lot parallels between this flight at 815. Ben is late just like Hurley was. Sayid is in law enforcement custody just like Kate was. And last but not least, Frank is flying the plane and he was supposed to be flying 815.

Who told Hurley to be on the plane and who did they tell him was "supposed" to be there? Kate is still being distant while Jack seems to start embracing the "man of faith" role even more. And you have to love how cool Frank is about the not going to Guam thing and it was great to see him again.
