Hurley asks Libby on a date, gives donation to Dr. Brooks

Hurley goes to Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute and tries to convince Dr. Brooks to let him speak to Libby. Dr. Books doesn't want to let him talk to her because he says she has issues with reality. Hurley pulls out his checkbook and says that he'll donate $100,000 to fix up the rec room.

In the rec room, Hurley sits, watching a man play Connect Four. Libby enters and sits with Hurley. She asks him if he remembered her, but he says no. She tells him that she saw one of Hurley's commercials on television a few days ago and as soon as she saw him, memories of him came washing back, but it was another life. She mentions the plane crash and the two of them being on the island. She says that they liked each other and she can remember the two of them both being in Santa Rosa too. Hurley says that he's never been in a mental hospital before.

Even though Hurley can't remember her and thinks she's a little crazy, he asks if she can leave on a day pass and go on a date with him. Libby reveals that she's there voluntarily and would love to go on a date with him.

So the two timelines are coming closer together, but as of now, Hurley still doesn't remember the original timeline. Libby's memories rushing back from just a image on television is weird though. It seems other people, like Charlie and Desmond, have had more life-altering events that have brought back memories of the other timeline. I wonder why Libby remembered so easily?

Libby approaches Hurley at Spanish Johnny's, says they are soul mates

Hurley sits alone at the Mexican restaurant Spanish Johnny's eating tortilla chips. It's obvious he's been sitting there waiting for his date Rosalita for a while.

Suddenly, none other that Libby appears and she knows his name. Hurley is dumbstruck, and thinks that she is Rosalita before she tells him that she spotted him from across the restaurant. She asks Hurley if he believes in that two people can be connected, like soul mates. He hesitantly responds yes and then she says "You don't remember me do you?"

Before they can continue, Dr. Books (Hurley's old doctor from Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute) shows up and pulls Libby away. Libby tries to explain that Hurley is an old friend, but Dr. Brooks takes her away, apologizes to Hurley for the intrusion as they leave.

Hurley has clearly been affected and follows them outside where he sees Dr. Brooks help Libby into a Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute van. He waves at her as she leaves and looks determined to see her again.

So how does Libby seem to have such a vivid memory of Hurley? Does her condition have something to do with her memory of the timeline and is this why she was staring at him in the flashback at Santa Rosa in the season 2 episode "Dave."

Locke visits Hurley at Santa Rosa, Sphinx painting

Locke's next visit is to Hurley at Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute. Hurley is sitting outside at the table where he spoke to Charlie in "The Beginning of the End." Hurley is painting a watercolor of a desert scene with a Sphinx. When Locke first approaches him, Hurley thinks that Locke is dead and visiting him like Charlie, Ana Lucia and Mr. Eko. Once the nurse confirms that Locke is there, Hurley momentarily has a mild freak out. Locke then makes his pitch but Hurley tells him that it is unlikely anyone will return, specifically sighting Sun and Kate who have children to look out for. That's when Hurley notices Matthew Abbadon by the car and warns Locke that they are being watched. Once Locke tells Hurley that Abbadon his with him, Hurley really freaks out telling Locke that Abbadon is evil and mentions the encounter he had with him in "The Beginning of the End." Hurley then leaps up and puts his fingers in his ears and asks to be taken inside, which the nurses/orderlies do.

After Locke is back in the car, he asks Abbadon what exactly he does for Charles Widmore. That is when Abbadon mentions the encounter the two of them had after Locke was pushed out of the window by Anthony Cooper. Abbadon mentions that he told Locke to go on the walkabout that led to him being on Oceanic flight 815 which led him to the island. Abbadon then says "I help people get to where they need to get to John. That's what I do for Mr. Widmore." Locke seems somewhat satisfied with this answer though he still looks a bit puzzled.

So, is Matthew Abbadon similar to Eloise Hawking? They both seem to help people get where they need to go. Also, what is with Hurley's painting of the Sphinx. the word "sphinx" is derived from the Greek word meaning as "strangler." Is Hurley foreshadowing Locke's future?

Hurley plays chess with Eko, Sayid takes him somewhere safe

Sayid comes to Hurley's room at Santa Rosa after killing the man out front of the facility. When he arrives at Hurley's room, he finds Hurley playing chess with an empty chair. Sayid tells Hurley that Jeremy Bentham is dead and when Hurley starts to say his real name, Sayid stops him. Sayid implies that the claim that Bentham committed suicide is untrue. When Hurley asks if they're going back (to the island), Sayid says no, just somewhere safe. Hurley agrees to go and as they're leaving he moves a chess piece and says "check mate Mr. Eko."

So Hurley has regular conversations with Charlie and is playing chess with Mr. Eko. What other dead characters does Hurley interact with?

Sayid kills a man in front of Santa Rosa

There's a man sitting in a car in front Santa Rosa Mental Institute keeping an eye on Hurley. Sayid approaches the car and asks the time, which happens to be 8:15 (two of the numbers). He then shoots the man and heads inside Santa Rosa.

Walt visits Hurley at Santa Rosa

Walt's grandmother/Michael's mother brings Walt (who has done some serious growing) to visit Hurley at Santa Rosa. When they arrive, Hurley is opening a Molly Fisher Fruit Roll-Up (it's a little random). Walt's grandmother wants Hurley to assure her that he won't do anything crazy if she lets Walt talk to him. Walt and Hurley have a conversation about why no one visited him after the Oceanic 6 returned. Walt also tells Hurley that Jeremy Bentham came to visit him. Walt wants to know why everyone is lying about what happened and Hurley tells him it's to keep those who were left behind safe, like his dad (Michael). Hurley doesn't seem to know that Michael died.

Also, in the second screen, there are letters on the wall. Some have wondered if it's an anagram. The Letters are Y M O H K E U T 7. It appears that there are at least two more letters on the wall that are obstructed by people. Care to come up with a possible answer? Leave a comment at let me know what you think.

Art on Kate's refrigerator similar to art at Santa Rosa

The cutout artwork on Kate's refrigerator is very similar to artwork seen on the walls of Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute in "The Beginning of the End." A couple items, including the orange butterfly and the ladybug are identical. The art looks like it would be in an kindergarten class. What does this art being in both places mean?

The last two screens are from "The Beginning of the End." These screens are originally from this older post.

Jack sits outside Santa Rosa

Jack sits outside of Santa Rosa Mental Health Facility where Hurley is a patient. Jack stares at the bench where Charlie comes to talk with Hurley. Jack is obviously distraught by Hurley telling him Charlie's message - "You're not supposed to raise him, Jack." Also, Hurley tells him that someone will be visiting him too, soon. Hurley tells him this after Jack has already seen Christian once.

Weirdness in the Santa Rosa gym

Here's the highly debated blip during the scene of Jack and Hurley in the gym. Behind the basketball goal, a dark something flips up for a second then disappears. It could just be an accident or it could be something of meaning.

Charlie returns with a message for Hurley

It was great to see Charlie again, looking quite stylish for a dead man. He came to Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute to talk to Hurley and give him a message - "They Need You."

Also, could the man in the background of the first picture be who the other patient at the hospital saw staring at Hurley?

Hurley's igloo painting

Here's the somewhat odd painting Hurley was working on right before he was approached by Charlie at Santa Rosa Mental Heath Institute.

Meet Matthew Abbadon

Hurley gets visited in Santa Rose Mental Health Institute by a new, mysterious character names Matthew Abbadon. He introduces himself as a lawyer representing Oceanic, but that doesn't seem to be true. In the last picture we see his stern face after he asks Hurley "are they still alive?." This freaks Hurley out.

In the second picture you'll notice some drawings on the blackboard behind Hurley and Matthew. There's a shark, a palm tree and a beach, all things from the island.
