The smoke monster kills Seamus, Jack lets the group out of Hydra cage

As Sawyer and Kate are inside the cages, Sawyer says that it feels like they're going in circles since they're back in there, but this time the gun was pointed at Kate's head.

Close by, Jin and Sun sit and Jin learns that his little girl Ji Yeon is with Sun's mother. He tells her that he saw pictures of her and she is beautiful. Sun then tells him that she has his wedding ring and then puts it back on his hand.

Suddenly, the power goes out killing the lights and the pylons. One guy from Widmore's group says that somebody killed the power and Seamus tells him to get a team to the generator. Then, the signature sounds of the smoke monster can be heard. Hurley says that now they're all going to die.

The smoke monster emerges from the jungle, and as it tends to be the case, Widmore's team attempts to shoot at it. It grabs Seamus and slams him against the cage which kills him. The monster quickly retreats back into the jungle, but can still be heard, presumably taking care of the other guys that were with Seamus.

Kate sees the keys on Seamus' belt and tries to grab them, but her arms are not quite long enough. Frank attempts to kick the cage door open with no luck.

As Kate is still reaching for the keys, suddenly a hand grabs them. We see Jack has come to let them out of the cage. Jack says I'm with him, nodding in the direction of the monster. Everyone then runs away.

Sawyer & his group are locked in the Hydra cages

At the Hydra Station, Widmore's team are setting up the portable sonic fence pylons next to the cages as Seamus and the others march Sawyer's group to them. When Seamus order Sawyer into the cage, he refuses to go back in there. Sawyer takes Seamus' gun and turns the tables, but Charles Widmore shows up and fires a gun into the air, then points it at Kate (a familiar scenario resembling season 3).

Widmore informs Sawyer of something he already knows. Widmore says that he has a list of names including Ford, the Knows and Reyes, but not Austen. Sawyer gives the gun back to Seamus, who gives him a knock in the gut with said gun (flashes of Pickett).

As the group gets in the cage, Widmore tells him that they're putting him there for their own good. Widmore asks one of his men if the sonic fence is live yet and the guy says it will be another hour. Widmore says that they don't have an hour because "he's coming," he being Locke.

So how exactly does Widmore seem to have Jacob's list? While he seems very afraid of Locke, it's still unclear exactly what his motives are.

Simmons is charred in the electromagnetic device, Widmore doesn't care

After Desmond attacks Widmore, he insists that Zoe start a test, even though she says it's not ready. Jin follows her to the Hydra Station's generator room, passing a makeshift wooden box connected to some heavy duty cables.

Once they're in the generator room, Seamus and many others panic as they prepare to set up the test a day ahead of schedule. Seamus says they need to get a functioning E.M. field. When the generator is turned on, it fails. Seamus sends a man named Simmons outside to the box to check the contacts on the solenoids.

Seamus turns to a white rabbit in a cage that is named Angstrom and tells it that it will be going into the box next. Anders Jonas Ångström was a Swedish physicist who studied terrestial magnetism, light and optical phenomena.

One of the technicians discovers it's a bad breaker and throws the switch as Simmons is inside the box examining the coils. The solenoids emit a bright light and Simmons is tossed across the box. The cameras go out and then the system is powered down. when Jin, Seamus and Zoe arrive at the box, they see the charred remains of Simmons' body.

Charles Widmore comes to the box and is unfazed by Simmons' body. Desmond is brought to the entrance and looks terrified of what could be coming next.

Sawyer revisits the Hydra station, finds Kate's old dress

Sawyer reaches the Hydra island in the canoe and heads to the abandoned Hydra station. He somberly revisits the polar bear cages where he and Kate spent so much time in the first part of season 3. He finds the flowered dress that Ben gave Kate to wear that prior to that belonged to Alex.

Ben tells Locke why he killed him, Locke to help Ben be judged

We see Ben in the Hydra Station office rummaging through the desk. He finds a picture of he and Alex and takes it from the frame. Locke walks in at that moment and asks what he has there. Ben says that it's just something sentimental. Locke moves around the desk and says "I never pictured you leading your people from behind a desk. It seems a little, corporate." Locke sits at the desk, leans back and puts his foot up confidently. Ben asks him if there's something that he needed. Locke tells him he wants to talk about "The elephant in the room." Ben says he assumes that means the fact that he killed him. Ben says that killing Locke was the only way to get him back to the island along with as many of the others as possible. Ben reminds Locke that he failed to get the others to come back. Ben continues saying that the only way to get them back was for Locke to die and that Locke realized this which is why he was about to kill himself. Locke asks hBenim why he stopped him if all he had to do was die. Ben says that Locke had critical information that he need and once he had it, it was just easier to kill him rather than convince him to hang himself again. Ben says "Look at you John, I was write." He says that Locke and the others are back though he doesn't know where they are yet. Ben says he did it all because "It was in the best interest of the island." Locke says "I was just hoping for an apology. Locke then says that he's decided to help Ben be judged. Locke says that if everything Ben has done has been in the best interest of the island, then I'm sure the monster will understand." Locke pauses, then says "Let's go."

So after death, John Locke seems to have finally found his confidence. He's got his jacket on, he looks professional and he's calling the shots. He's not letting Ben push him around anymore. Ben is obvsiously uncomfortable with this power shift.

Ben tells Locke he came back to the island to be judged

This scene picks up where "Whatever Happened, Happened" left off, though it's slightly different. Here, Locke wakes Ben, but at the end of the last episode, Ben woke up on his own. Ben is wide eyed when he sees Locke alive and gasps "My god, you're alive." Ben says that he knew that this would happen and Locke asks why he looks so surprised to see him. Ben says it's one thing to believe it would happen and another to actually see it. Ben says he was trying to leave go to the main island because he "broke the rules." Ben says he was going to answer for what he had done and to be judged. Locke asks who he is going to be judged by. Ben says that they don't have a name for it, but he says that Locke knows it as the monster.

Was Ben really going to be judged or did he have other plans back on the main island? If he's lying, what was he going to do when he got there with Sun?

Caesar takes Locke to the injured survivors, Ben among them

Back to the "present time" where Locke is resurrected on the island, we see Caesar thumbing through some files in the Hydra Station. Locke walks into the office and tells Caesar a little about the Dharma Initiative and that he spent over 100 days on the island. Caesar tells John that when the plane experienced turbulence, Hurley disappeared and some other passengers saw other people just disappear. Locke asks for a passenger list but Caesar says that Frank took it. Caesar says that everyone is accounted for except the people who disappeared and the people who got hurt. He then takes Locke to where the injured people are. Locke spots Ben on one of the cots and tells Caesar "He's the man who killed me."

Since Ben is here and not where the other people who disappeared from the plane are, should we assume that he wasn't supposed to go back to the island? Also, we seem to learn a little bit, very little, about how Hurley, Kate and Jack ended up so far away from where the plane crashed. There's still much more to learn though.

Caesar plunders through the Hydra Station office, Ilana interrupts

This week's episode started with a mysterious scene in a dark office which we later learn is an office in the Dharma Initiative's Hydra Station. Caesar is rummaging through the office and finds a Life magazine from April 19, 1954 with a cover story about hydrogen bomb tests. He then breaks open a file cabinet and pulls out a file folder. The folder contains a copy of a page from Daniel's journal (photos 17 and 18: we saw this page in the journal in "The Constant") and an updated version of the map Daniel and Charlotte used to find The Tempest (photos 15 and 16: we saw this map in "The Other Woman") . it also contains one of the maps of the island that Danielle Rousseau had (photos 13 and 14).

Caesar then finds a loaded gun under the desk and puts it in his bag. Ilana walks in and asks what he put in the bag and Caesar lies and pulls out a flashlight which he tosses to her. She then tells him that someone named Roxanne was scouting just south of where they are and found a man standing in the water wearing a suit. We learn moments later that the man was John Locke. More on that in the next post.

So when are they on the island and how long have they been there? They know each other's names and are already scouting the island, so how much time has passed since they got to the island? Also, what is Caesar up to and why is he hiding a gun? It feels a bit like the secrets kept between the 815 surivivors in the first few seasons.
