Ben, Richard & Miles get C-4 from the barracks, discover Widmore & Zoe

We finally see Ben, Miles and Richard again, making their way through the jungle towards the barracks. Miles questions whether Ben's short cut is accurate and Ben says he lived at the barracks a long time and he knows how to get there. Mile hits back saying he lived there 30 years ago, "otherwise known as last week." It's nice to see a little humor return to the show.

Once they arrrive at the barracks, Miles starts getting that dead body feeling and says that he get "wonky around dead stuff." Ben asks him if he has something to share and before Miles can say anything, Richard says that Alex is buried there. He says that he buried Alex's body after Ben left the island. Ben pauses and looks down at the ground then thanks Richard.

They then enter Ben's old house where he immediately moves the bookcase, revealing his secret room. Miles notices the door where Ben summoned the smoke monster and asks what it is. Ben says that it is where he was told he could summon the smoke monster, but he now knows that it was really summoning him.

Behind the hanging shirts, there is a safe that Ben opens to reveal six bricks of C-4. Ben asks Richard if they want to cripple the plane or "blow it to hell," and Richard chooses the latter, so they take a six bricks.

They suddenly hear a noise, and leave the room to discover Zoe in the kitchen. They point their rifles at her and Ben asks who she is. Then Charles Widmore enters house and says that she' with him. Ben looks completely stunned to see Widmore.

Names on lighthouse dial + mirrors show Jack's childhood home + Jack trashes it

Hurley and Jack make it to the top of the lighthouse to find a giant dial operated by gears and a pulley to change the degrees. There are four mirrors attached to reflect the light of a fire bowl in the center. Next to each degree, there is a name. The numbers seem to match the numbers Sawyer saw on the cave's walls.

Hurley starts to change it to 108 degrees as Jacob told him to, but Jack watches the mirrors and sees glimpses of the place where Sun and Jin were married and the church where Sawyer's parents funeral was held. Both places were where Jacob met them. Jack then notices his own name and takes over, turning it to 23, Shephard. In the mirrors, he sees his childhood home (the one we saw in the flash sideways earlier in the episode). Jack deduces that Jacob had been watching them and then he snaps at Hurley, demanding to know why Jacob was watching him. Jack grabs a telescope from a stand in the corner and proceeds to smash all of the mirrors.

Here's a list of the names I could decipher on the wheel (be sure to click "Read more" below to view the full list along with tons of screens.

14 - Pryce (Ryan?)
15 - Ford (James "Sawyer")
16 - Jarrah (Sayid)
17 - Barnes
18 - Kueffner
19 - Nguyen

Hurley's follows Jacob's directions, tells Dogen he can do what he wants

Hurley makes his way through a temple hallway, following Jacob's directions which he wrote on his left forearm. We can see that Hurley is looking for a specific hieroglyphics symbol on the wall which he finds.

He is then approached by Dogen who tells him to go back to the courtyard. Jacob appears to Hurley telling him to tell Dogen that he is a candidate and he can do what he wants. Dogen is stunned, but folds, muttering some Japanese that translates to "You're lucky that I have to protect you. Otherwise I'd have cut your head off." After Dogen leave, Jacob tells he needs to bring Jack and when Hurley asks how he's supposed to convince Jack, Jacob smiles slyly.

Sayid comes back to life at the temple

At the temple, Lennon comes and asks Jack to come with them to talk. As Jack struggles with two of the others, Sayid slowly sits up, leaving everyone looking shocked. Sayid asks "What happened?"

And that's the question we'd like an answer to. I'll cover this a bit more in the upcoming posts from the episode "What Kate Does."

The water in temple spring is brown, Sayid dies after dunking

Dogen leads the surviors through the temple where we can see a few natives/others working the the grounds. They are then led to the interior where the spring is located. Hieroglyphics are visible on the pillars of the room.

As they enter, Lennon notes that the water isn't clear and asks what happened. Dogen says that he doesn't know and proceeds to the steps of the spring, cuts his hand with a knife and submerges it in the water for a few seconds. He pulls it out and it hasn't healed. He then tells them that there will be risks if they heal Sayid and Jack, continuing his new trust fate kick, immediately agrees that they should proceed.

A few of the men remove Sayid's coveralls and proceed to carry him into the spring. They submerge him once Dogen has started an hourglass which appears to be filled with a mix of dark and light sand. Sayid starts kicking fairly quickly but they keep him down until the hourglass runs out and he is no longer moving. Sayid is in a Christ-like pose as he is carried from the spring and then Dogen confirms that he is dead.

Jack then briefly tries to resuscitate Sayid (which is similar to when he saved Charlie after he was hung  by Ethan), but gives up at Kate's insistence.

So was the water not clear because Jacob is dead? What exactly is the spring and how does it work? Presumably, this is where Richard brought Ben after Sayid shot him.

Sayid removes the h-bomb core, Richard asks Jack about Locke

Back in the chamber, Sayid is still working on removing the bomb's core from the housing. Jack asks if a backpack is big enough to hold the bomb and Sayid says yes. Richard picks up a sledgehammer next to column with hieroglyphics on it. Sayid removes the core of the bomb as Eloise watches him.

Richard bends down to talk to Jack and tells him that over 20 years ago, John Locke walked into the others camp and said he was going to be their leader. Richard says that he's gone off the island three times since then to visit him, but he never seemed particuarly special. Richard asks Jack if he knows Locke. Jack says that he knows him and "If I were you, I wouldn't give up on him."

It seems like Richard might be ready to give up on Locke but Jack's newfound support for him might be what convinces him to stay faithful to Locke and help him in the future.

Also, is Richard counting reaching out to to Locke through his high school science teacher as the third time he visited him, or was there another time we did not see?

Richard, Jack, Eloise and Sayid swim through to the tunnels

Richard Alpert is the first to jump into the creek and swim to the tunnels. Jack prepares to go under next. He tells Sayid that he won't blame him if he doesn't come. Eloise tells Jack to take a deep breath and that there will be an opening in the far end. We see Jack swim towards the small waterfall and under the rocks. He makes his way through a tunnel with and comes up in a chamber.

Jack tells Richard that it was a lot further than he though it was. He scans the room which has hieroglyphics on the columns. Jack asks "Where are we?" and Richard says "The tunnels." Jack asks how they're going to get a bomb out of here. Richard says "The same way we brought it in" and Jack replies "I assume you don't mean through the pool." Richard says "It's a 12-foot long, 40,000 pound hydrogen bomb. No, not through the pool."

Eloise comes up through the pool and Sayid is right behind her. Jack goes to help Sayid and says "I didn't think you'd come." Sayid says "Well, if this works, you might just save us all. And if it doesn't, at least you'll put us out of our misery." They then set off on their journey through the tunnels. Richard seems considerably less than thrilled about this entire situation.

So what exactly are the tunnels for? It seems possible that this is how the smoke monster travels through the island. Richard seems to go along with Eloise's plan even though he seems incredibly skeptical about the entire thing.

Under the temple wall #2: Hieroglyphics everywhere in smoke monster room

Here's part two. Ben is now in the smoke monster's room/lair. He investigates the columns and various aspects of the room which are all covered with hieroglyphics. I'll try to dig into all of the glyphs soon, but there's not time for that now. The big moment comes when Ben approaches the back wall and there's hieroglyphics that seem to depict the smoke monster facing down the figure in the giant statue on the island (possibly Anubis, Taweret or a combination of the two). There seems to be an eye and a snake/serpent between the two entities.

If there was a stand-off between the smoke monster and the figure in the statue at some point, it would seem that the monster won. It's still there and there's only a foot left on the statue.
