Miles sees Pierre holding him as a baby, Hurley hits Miles with more Star Wars

Miles and Hurley arrive back at the barracks. Miles signs the van back in on the board and Hurley apologizes for saying that Miles was afraid to talk to his father. Miles tells Hurley not to worry about it. Hurley starts to refill the van with fuel as he tells Miles that he used to hate his dad too. Hurley tells Miles about his dad leaving when he was ten, but he says that giving him another chance was the best thing he ever did. He says that they became the best of friends and he misses him. Miles tells Hurley that his father left when he was a baby and that he never knew him and doesn't want to. Hurley comes back at Miles with more Stars Wars talk. He says that Luke Skywalker overreacted in The Empire Strikes Back and gets his hand cut off when he could have just talked to his father Darth Vader. He says that they worked it out eventually, but at a great cost. He says "Another Death Star was destroyed, Boba Fett got eaten by the Sarlacc, and we got the Ewoks. It all could've been avoided if they'd just, you know, communicated. And let's face it. The Ewoks sucked, dude." This finally gets through to Miles and we actually see a partial smile on his face as Hurley walks away.

Miles goes over to Pierre Chang and Lara's house and sees his father reading baby him a book. Pierre is goofing around with baby Miles and the book he is reading him is interestingly enough titled Me and My Polar Bear (the book does appear to be real). Baby Miles even has his own Dharma blanket. The phone rings and Miles' mother Lara comes and takes the baby to the kitchen. Pierre comes outside to find non-baby Miles after the phone call. Pierre calls Miles and says that he needs him. Miles happily says "You do?" Pierre says that the submarine has come in from HQ and he needs Miles' help bringing the people in. Miles assumes they are new recruits, but Pierre tells him that they are scientist from Ann Arbor. He tells Miles to get the van so they can go to the dock.

The final scene with the submarine will be in the following post.

We finally see the full force of Miles' emotions about his father come to fruition when he sees that his father did care about him. It seems possible that Pierre sent Miles and Lara away from the island to protect them from bad things to come. I think we'll find out pretty soon.
