Pierre Chang aka Marvin Candle in his home on the island

In the first scene of season 5, we see Dr. Pierre Chang (aka Marvin Candle, Edgar Halliwax and Mark Wickmund) for the first time outside of the confines of a Dharma video. He wakes at the numerically significant time of 8:15. We see his wife, baby and elements of his home. He puts a record on in a few shots that is very similar to Desmond's reveal in season 2. Chang's record starts skipping which foreshadows some of Daniel Faraday's later info on the island's time shifts. The song by the way was Willie Nelson's "Shotgun Willie" from his 1973 album of the same name.

He makes his way through the barracks (aka New Otherton) to film a video for Dharma station 2, "The Arrow." This station is where we saw the Tailsection folks hiding out in season 2. Apparently, the station's purpose was to "develop defensive strategies and gather intelligence on the island's hostile, indigenous population."

During the filming we see a few Dharma staffers who are producing the video. The filming is interrupted by another Dharma worker. More on that in the next post.

The Orchid orientation video

Here's the famed Orchid orientation video that was first teased at Comic-Con last summer. In the intro text, The Orchid is listed as station 6 of 6. In the video, we see Marvin Candle going by the name Edgar Halliwax. He is holding a white rabbit with the number 15 on it and begins to explain that island's unique properties have created a kind of Casimir effect which allows Dharma to conduct experiments in space and time. The vault was built next to a pocket of what they believe to be negatively charged exotic matter and inorganic materials and especially metal should not be placed in the chamber. Halliwax says the electromagnetic energy of the island can be highly volitale and unpredictable as he places bunny #15 in the inside the vault. In the experiment the will attempt to shift the #15 100ms ahead in 4-dimensional space. He then says, "for the briefest of moments, the animal will seem to disappear, but in reality...," then the tape begins to rewind on it's own.

My guess is that anymore explanation of the station might give away to many island secrets. There are still two seasons to reveal more information.

Ben lands/arrives/appears in the Sahara Desert

Ben arrives in the Sahara Desert wearing a Dharma parka, known as a Dharka. The Dharka is complete with a new Dharma logo, most likely for the Orchid station. Also, the name Halliwax is on Dharka as well. In the Orchid orientation video footage, Dr. Marvin Candle uses the name Edgar Halliwax.
