Jack meets Anthony Cooper who is in a vegetative state

In the sideways, Jack is attempting to get permission to visit Anthony Cooper at retirement home type place. As the receptionist is asking what his interest in Mr. Cooper is, Helen Norwood walks by with a potted flower.

She asks what he is doing there and he says he want to ask Anthony Cooper about Locke's accident. Helen tells him to go and that Locke told her about the surgery and he doesn't want it. She adds "You saved John's life. Why can't that be enough?" Jack says "Because it's not."

Helen gives in and leads him into a community dining room where there are many senior citizens eating. She walks over to a table where a nurse is feeding a white haired man in a wheelchair. Helen rolls him over towards Jack and we see Anthony Cooper who is in a vegetative state, his eyes just staring off at nothing. Helen wipes some drool from his mouth and introduces Anthony and tells Jack that he is Locke's father. Jack looks surprised and disappointed.

Why is Jack so incredibly determined to fix Locke? Is this just old Jack needing to fix things or is there another motive?

Jack goes to Bernard's office & asks about Locke's condition, gets the name Anthony Cooper

At Bernard Nadler's dentist office, Bernard is working on a dental cast when Jack walks in. Jack introduces himself and tells Bernard that he's there to find out information about John Locke. Jack saw in Locke's medical records that Bernard performed emergency oral surgery on him about three years ago.

Bernard asks Jack why he's so interested in Locke and Jack tells him that he and Locke were on the same flight back from Australia. Bernard interrupts and says Oceanic 815 which stuns Jack. Bernard tells him that they were sitting across the isle from him and that Jack was flirting with his wife Rose while he was in the bathroom. Bernard says "It's pretty weird, huh?" and a stilled shocked Jack just says "yeah."

Bernard says that Jack may be onto something and though he can't break patient confidentiality, that he can tell him that Locke came in with another man involved in the same accident. Jack says that was three years ago and says "you just remember that?" Bernard says "Of course I do, Jack" in a very sly way. Bernard writes the name Anthony Cooper (Locke's father) on a piece of paper from memory. He tells Jack "Good luck, doc. I hope you find what you're looking for."

There's something very odd about this scene. Bernard talks to jack in a manner like he's known him for quite a while. He calls him "doc" which is what a lot of people on the island called Jack. It seems that Bernard might be very aware of the original timeline.

Detective Ford is calling Anthony Coopers, hiding it from Miles + Pierre Chang is alive

In the flash sideways, we see Detective James Ford (Sawyer) calling a list of people named Anthony Cooper, telling them that he's looking for the owner of some unclaimed property. He asks one if he was in Alabama in 1976, the same year and place where his parents were killed. He has a list of names, which he scratches out after the first call and is interrupted by Miles during the second.

Sawyer lies to Miles about what he's doing and Miles becomes suspicious when Sawyer temporarily forgets about his supposed vacation in Palm Springs.

Miles also tells Sawyer that he has set him up on a date with a friend who works with his dad, Pierre Chang, at a museum. So in this timeline, it seems that Pierre Chang is not dead, seemingly busting the theory that the island sank when the bomb went off.

Locke gets fired by Randy Nations + pictures in cubicle of Anthony Cooper & Helen

Locke returns to work in his cubicle at the box company, when his jackass boss Randy Nations starts quizzing him about his trip to Australia. Locke tries to lie, but Randy calls him out on the fact that he didn't attend any of the conference events while he was there. Randy then fires Locke.

In Locke's cubicle, there are two photos. One of him and Helen and one him and Anthony Cooper hunting. This is another confirmation that Locke and Cooper have a good relationship in this timeline, so again, what other major changes took place in Locke's past?

Anthony Cooper/Tom Sawyer tied to ruins

Do the ruins that Anthony Cooper was tied to have anything to do with the four-toed statue that Sayid, Jin and Sun saw?

Locke's hand heals quickly

It seems that Locke's bite from his father healed completely in just six days. Things do seem to heal quickly on this island.

Sawyer, meet Sawyer

Sawyer (James Ford) finally meets Tom Sawyer (Anthony Cooper).
