Memories of Libby rush back to Hurley during their kiss on the beach, Desmond is watching

At the beach in the sideways, Hurley lays out the blanket and unpacks the picnic basket so he and Libby can finally have their date. Libby stares out at the ocean and when Hurley asks what's wrong, she says that nothing is wrong, but it feels "off." She says the picnic is "like a date we never had."

Much like on the island, Hurley questions why Libby would want to be with him. She says that she likes him, but he says that she's "delusional." She leans in and kisses him, and suddenly, memories of their time on the island rush back to Hurley (just like they did with Desmond).

Hurley is stunned for a moment and then says that he thinks he's remembering stuff. Libby asks "You mean I'm not crazy," and Hurley says that he doesn't think she is. Libby is overcome with joy.

As the shot gets wider, we pan down to see Desmond sitting in his car, watching the two of them. He has a sly smile on his face as he drives away.

So what will be the repercussions of the Oceanic 815 passengers remembering the original timeline and why is Desmond starting to push people towards these revelations? What does Desmond know right now that we don't?

Penny and Desmond reunited

As the Oceanic 6, Desmond and Frank float along in the raft, they spot a boat in the distance (very similar to when the raft is spotted by Tom and the others in the season 1 finale. The boat spots them and the eight find rescue. The boat is named "Searcher" and the first person we see on it is Henrik, one of the two guys in the Arctic station at the end of season 2. Henrik calls for Miss Widmore. Penny appears and Desmond climbs aboard the boat. In a classic style, the two run towards each other, share an stunned/overjoyed look and then kiss.

Desmond and Penny's reunion was a long awaited event on Lost, and the scene did not disappoint.

Kate and Sawyer share a secret, kiss and then he jumps

On the helicopter, Frank tries to find the freighter, but it has moved. The helicopter is losing fuel because of the gunfire exchanged at helicopter earlier when Keamy's team battled the others. The losties throw some of the contents of the helicopter into the ocean to make the helicopter lighter, but it's not enough. Sawyer whispers something to Kate, obviously something to do with the secret thing Kate is doing for him in "Something Nice Back Home," and then he sacrifices rescue by jumping out of the helicopter, but not before a kiss goodbye from Kate. Sawyer then starts swimming back to the island.

Check out the second and fifth screens. The visual effects (the blue/green screen shots) in the second shot are just bad. In the fifth screen, the stunt men/stand-ins are really awful, especially the ones in the helicopter. It looks like the guy sitting in for Sayid is white. A lot of the visual effects in the finale were below par for Lost which was disappointing, though I know the filming of the post-strike episodes was rushed.
