Jin's cell phone
Besides Jin's general appearance, Jin's cell phone was the first big tip that his half of the story was a flashback. The phone is very 90s.

Lets roll with this theory that Jins story is actually a flashback. The comments made with Jins mobile and his dress seem to hold some credence when you link it with the conversation with the shop owner. Upon trying to buy the reserved panda the shop owner tries to tempt him into buying the brightly coloured dragon. The shop owner says that it is the year of the dragon. Having done some homework on this, the dates for it to be considered year of the dragon are 17th Feb 1988 to 5th Feb 1989, and also 5th Feb 2000 to 23rd of Jan 2001. The next time for year of dragon does not exist until the year 2012. So, this does seem to insinuate that it is a flashback rather than a flash forward, but as always, with Lost, nothing is what it seems.................
