Amy gives up Paul's body to maintain the truce

Amy is sitting by Paul's body in when Horace and Sawyer come in. Horace tells her that to maintain the truce, Richard wants to take Paul's body back with him. She immediately gets distraught and starts to shake her head signaling no. Horace tells her that if she doesn't want to give them Paul's body, then they will "suffer the consequences." She tells Horace that they can take Paul because he would want to keep them safe. She asks for a minute alone with Paul and she uses the time to take an ankh necklace from his neck. An ankh is a symbol of life and/or immortality. The giant statue also may have been holding an ankh (see photos here). As she is leaving, Sawyer apologizes to her.

Horace then tells Sawyer that the submarine will return in two weeks and that he and his crew can stay until then so they can look for their other men.

It would seem that the ankh symbol may be an important symbol in the island's mythology. I guess we'll have to wait and see how it figures into the big picture.

Amy convinces the group to bury the hostiles, tricks them into walking through sonic fence

As Amy is mourning over Paul's body, Juliet and Jin examine the hostiles. Juliet points out that because of the Dharma jumpsuit Paul is wearing, that they are in the 1970s or 1980s. Jin finds a walkie talkie on one of the hostiles. Sawyer tells Amy that he and the group were on a ship headed for Tahiti that wrecked on the island. Amy tells them that they have to bury the hostiles because of the truce, and that they need to take Paul's body home. Jin is convinced first and then Sawyer agrees.

Next we see the group trekking across the island and Jin has Paul's body on his back. Sawyer tells Juliet and Miles to let him do the talking when they reach the Dharma barracks because he is a professional liar. Juliet then screams and Daniel to stop as he is about to walk through the pylons of the sonic fence. Juliet tells Amy to turn if saying "It looks like some kind of sonic fence or something." This makes Amy ask the question "Where did you say your ship was going?" Amy hesitantly agrees to turn off the fence, though when she opens the box on the pylon, she doesn't turn it off but rather takes something out of the box. She tells them that the fence is off but Sawyer tells her to walk through first. A high pitched noise can be heard as she walks through, but she passes through safely. This convinces them that it is off though when they step into it they start violently shaking and fall to the ground. The look on Miles' face in photo 9 is priceless. After they're all on the ground, Amy pulls what appears to be two pieces of cotton from her ears.

So let me get this straight, when the fence is on a lower setting, all you need is cotton in your ears to pass through? It's odd that cotton is all she needed to pass through safely while the others where thrown to the ground. Also, it would seem that the Dharma Initiative and the hostiles/natives had a truce. This makes Charles Widmore's story about leading the people of the island peacefully seem slightly more plausible.

Sawyer and Juliet shoot two hostiles, save Amy

The group hears two gun shots and a woman screaming. They go check it out and find two natives/hostiles/others holding a gun on Amy. Her husband Paul is lying dead on the ground. It seems that Paul and Amy were having a picnic when the hostiles arrived. They put a bag over Amy's head. Miles says to Daniel, "We don't get involved, right?" Daniel replies "It doesn't matter what we do. Whatever happened, happened. Sawyer and Juliet go to save Amy. Juliet shoots the short haired other and Sawyer shoots the long haired one. Sawyer removes the bag from Amy's head and she asks "Who are you?"

"Whatever happened, happened" is another intriguing line from Daniel Faraday. He is a bit out of it right now, so it's hard to know what to believe though. He seems to think he can change something by not telling Charlotte that she will die if she comes back to the island, but they says "Whatever happened, happened." Charlotte's death happened so presumably that can't change, can it?

Also, it would seem that the hostiles/others have had a thing for putting bags over people's heads for a while. This scene was reminiscent of when Kate was captured by Tom and the others.
