Richard wants to die, Jack lights dynamite at Black Rock

On their trek across the island, Hurley quizzes Richard asking if he's time traveling, a cyborg or a vampire, to each of which Richard answers no. They then approach the Black Rock instead of the temple and Richard tells them that everyone at the temple was dead, but their friends were not there. He then tells Hurley not to believe anything Jacob told him.

Richard approaches the Black Rock, telling them that he's going inside to die. Once inside, Richard examines some empty chains and tells Jack that he hasn't been back to the Black Rock since he was first there, implying what many have thought, that he was a slave on the ship. He opens a crate of dynamite ignoring Hurley's emphatic warnings and tells them that he can't kill himself because Jacob touched him which was supposed to be a gift, but was really a curse. Richard slams a stick of dynamite down and nothing happens.

Richard says that he devoted his life to Jacob who told him he had a plan which he would one day reveal and that he would be a part of. Now that Jacob's dead, Richard says that his entire life had no purpose and that if someone else lights the fuse, then he can die. Jack lights the fuse but then sticks around for a chat.

Richard tells Jack that he should go or he's going to die, but Jack tells him that he thinks that won't happen. Jack tells him about what he and Hurley experienced at the lighthouse and that Jacob has been watching him since he was a small child. Jack says that if Jacob went to all the trouble to watch him and bring him to the island, that he's not going to let him die there. Jack closes his eyes as the spark approaches the dynamite and then it goes out at the last moment. Jack smiles and asks Richard if he wants to try another stick.

Richard now seems convinced to follow Jack and asks what they should do next. Jack says they'll go back to where they started, which is the beach camp.

So there are a few lofty answers here. We now know what Jacob's touch means and essentially that Richard was a slave on the Black Rock. The touch explains why Michael couldn't kill himself in season 4, but when did Jacob touch him?

Claire keeping a "squirrel baby" in cradle, explosives + Justin's alive

Jin wakes up to find himself in Claire's makeshift shack, his leg still very bloody and painful from the trap. He looks around and sees some random Dharma food, clothing and a crate of explosives from the Black Rock. He then notices a makeshift cradle and looks inside to find a hideous thing made of random animal furs, a skull and other bits. It's been dubbed "squirrel baby."

Claire comes back dragging Justin with her, who was only pretending to be dead earlier. After tying up Justin and she turns her attention to Jin saying "We'd better get that cleaned up. If there's one thing that'll kill you around here it's infection." A clever little line hinting at the infection Rousseau talked about, but referring to a literal infection.

Jin asks her if she's been by herself all this time, and she coyly says "I'm not by myself." When she steps outside, Justin tells Jin that Claire is going to kill them both.

So Claire has clearly gone off the deep end which is especially punctuated by the squirrel baby.

Desmond discovers a large amount of C-4 on the freighter

Desmond seems to have found th source of the interference on the freighter. It's a large amount of C-4, most likely controlled by the device on Keamy's arm. The text on the C-4 says, "EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS AUTHORIZED MILITARY PERSONNEL ONLY." It's very similar to the explosives in Michael's case from Ben.

Will the explosives be activated and if so, by who?

Inside Michael's case + Libby again

The first shot is of the pipes where Michael puts the "explosives" in the engine room. It says "FUEL LINE ONE - WARNING - NO OPEN FLAMES."

The rest of shots are of contents of Michael's case. The tools on top were removed to reveal "explosives" that say:

DEMOLITION BLOCK M3A1
COMPOSITION 4
EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS: AUTHORIZED MILITARY PERSONNEL
EXPLOSIVE!
USE EXTREME CAUTION DURING HANDLING

Michael enters a code (71776) on the number pad to activate the "EXECUTE" button. Before Michael pushes the button, he hears the same Mama Cass song that was on the radio when he tried to commit suicide in the car. Libby then appears and says "Don't do it Michael." After he pushes the button, a stick pops up with a note that says "NOT YET."

While it seems cruel to torture Michael like this, it seems that Ben may be sincere about not killing the innocent people on the freighter. At the same time, at the end of season three, he tells the extraction team to kill anyone who gets in the way of them taking the pregnant women. As always the question is, can we trust Ben?
